This is Not the Support You Are Looking For

So you just did a Google search for Norton or Canon Support and got a “1-800” number where they told you that they needed to remote in to your computer to troubleshoot your issue. After poking around they tell you that your computer is badly infected and they would be happy to fix the errors for the low cost of 299.99. Out of fear you whip out your credit card, read the numbers, and boom you just got taken.

Unfortunately the number you called has nothing to do with Norton or (insert searched company name here) you got a phone number from an Ad. That’s right your first 2-3 results were all ads like the one below:

If you look closely you can see the add is not Norton but rather iYogi a company that specializes in what some have considered shady practices (HERE) and they’re not the only faux call centers pulling these phishing ads. If you have been a victim of such a call center, please get your PC to a PC repair store front and cancel the payment for the transaction with the credit card company or your bank; I’d even go as far as to say have replacement cards issued just to be safe.
