Google Does It Again… Well AT&T Did?

As we reported last week about TWC/Comcast improving speeds fro clients to directly compete with Google Fiber in KC Markets, AT&T has stepped up their networks to gigabit speeds in a Google Fiberhood in Austin, TX . In April of 2013 AT&T U-verse offered GigaPower Service and at the time it could only deliver 300mbps. Both Google Fiber and GigaPower from AT&T charge $70 per month for the service which is a step in the right direction for ISP’s seeing as the USA falls behind all other developed nations in speed and speed/price ratios.  AT&T’s price tag does have a few stipulations however such as a 1 year contract (rate good for 3 years) and data tracking on devices using its network (opt out available after first year of service).

But don’t think the good news of affordable internet is just for the Austin, TX area, AT&T in an effort to better compete with Google Fiber will be deploying in Overland Park, KS as part of its expansion so keep your eyes peeled for awesome prices and maybe use it to bring your bill down a little.

Hopefully we will see more competitive prices as faster speeds become available and Google Fiber continues to light a proverbial fire under the butts of the competition.
